Toyota inked a new sponsorship deal with the Portland Trailblazers in 2018, which provided them the opportunity to have a permanent vehicle display inside the MODA Center, Portland’s primary indoor sports arena. The Trailblazers then turned to ASV to design, ship and install a new vehicle display that would stand the rigors of a 5-year contract while speaking to the Toyota brand and highlighting the region’s Toyota dealerships.
While we were limited to a modest 20’ diameter circular footprint, we took advantage of the fact that there was a balcony on the 2nd floor right above it, with 2 sizeable soffits. We also had to make sure we didn’t restrict access or visibility to a fire exit behind the display, so height was a concern as well. Our design team pulled inspiration from Portland’s long history in ship building, creating a backwall reminiscent of the ribs once used in the process, the front of which holds a detailed dealer map and the back which highlights branded lifestyle imagery. In the lower soffit above the display we added Toyota logos and 2 flat screens, one running Toyota content and the other a live stream of the main event. For the upper soffit we created a circular graphic ring that fit perfectly inside, showcasing their most popular line of vehicles.
With a rigorous goal of getting everything fabricated, shipped and installed before the first game of the season, we shifted into overdrive and did just that! With a shiny new 4Runner in place, one of their highest selling vehicles in that region, the opening game was packed with fans and the new Toyota display saw massive amounts of traffic. The clients were thrilled with the final product and have reached out several times to let us know what a great reaction everyone has had to it!
